This is a great perspective on racing the marathon. I think that while some people might not be racing the marathon and are forced to walk a lot in that last 10k, that is whats right for them. For me, all of that training lead me to the day in which I am attempting to run the whole damn thing. Now that doesnt mean I dont have to walk a few times occasionally in the last 6 miles out of sheer pain, but in my mind, Im pushing as hard as I can.
